Future Lawyer Scholarship
At McGilberry & Shirer, we’re excited to announce our First Annual Future Lawyer Scholarship Award. Beginning in 2020, we’re awarding $1,000 to a deserving law student who authors the winning submission in our essay contest.
Please write 750-1,000 words on this topic: How has the power of the president of the United States changed over the last 100 years, and has this change been good or bad?
The scholarship will be awarded to the student who best demonstrates their knowledge and passion for the subject. The winning essay will demonstrate good organization and thoughtful writing.
When: We are currently accepting submissions.
Where: Use the application form below. Fill out the required fields and attach your essay, along with a copy of your unofficial transcripts.
Deadline: The deadline for submissions is May 15, 2020.
To be eligible for our scholarship contest you must be: a legal US resident, and either (1) a current law student at an accredited U.S. law school, or (2) an undergraduate student who has applied or will apply to law school. Students with full academic scholarships are not eligible to enter this contest.
Proof of enrollment must be provided. We will accept digital scans of any of the following as valid proof of enrollment:
- Unofficial transcript (Applicant must submit by mail an unopened copy of official transcripts if selected as a finalist)
- Letter from Admissions confirming deposit on school letterhead
- Official enrollment verification form
- Acceptance letter on school letterhead
Ensure that you attach your proof of enrollment to the application form below.
Additionally, you must:
- Verify you have read and understand the McGilberry & Shirer Future Lawyer Scholarship requirements
- Submit a readable copy of your entry (only one entry per student is permitted)
Your application must be submitted no later than the May 15, 2020 deadline. If your application is submitted after the deadline, it will not be accepted.
Winner Notification and Award Distribution
Once judgment of the submitted applications has been completed, the winner will be notified via phone, email, and/or mail.
The winner will be selected by June 15, 2020. The award will be distributed by August 20, 2020.
Use of the Award Money
The award winner understands and accepts that the scholarship monies will be sent directly to the winner’s school and shall be used only for tuition and education-related purposes.
Submissions: All content and creative work become the property of McGilberry & Shirer, LLP upon submission and may be reposted or displayed online or through any media channels, in whole or part, without notification. When you send email communications to McGilberry & Shirer, LLP, its agents and/or representatives may retain those communications.
By submitting an application, the applicant grants McGilberry & Shirer, LLP, its agents and/or representatives permission to post the applicant’s name, school or university, applicant’s photo, and the winning entry on the firm’s website (McGilberry & Shirer, LLP), and on other marketing platforms, including but not limited to blogs, social media accounts, and related sites. The winning applicant also agrees to assist McGilberry & Shirer, LLP and its agents with any tasks that the law firm deems reasonable or necessary to help with the above and other promotional activities.
